Antonio & Sharna – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 01

DWTS Season 22, Week 01
REVIEW:  Antonio & Sharna

Touchdown!!

Antonio & Sharna
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Performing a Booming Quickstep to “Bad Man” by Pitbull, featuring Robin Thicke, Joe Perry, and Travis Barker, Pittsburgh Steelers’ Wide Receiver, Antonio Brown, along with his Professional partner, Sharna Burgess, exploded on Week 01’s Dance Floor!

Antonio & Sharna
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Fantastically Fun, Fast and Furious, with just the right amount of Funk thrown in, this exquisitely Choreographed Routine (Compliments of the ever-brilliant Sharna, of course!) proved one of the evening’s undeniable best!!

Antonio & Sharna
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Despite a Frame that was somewhat lacking, along with some of those all-important Dancing Lines and even a little Footwork, Antonio just came out and surprised us all (!) with his Ease,  his star-like Quality and Pizzazz, and his, more so, superb sense of Rhythm!

DWTS Season 22, Week 01

“… There’s something fantastic about you,” exclaimed Panel Judge Carrie Ann Inaba upon reviewing Antonio & Sharna’s terrific Performance.  “You rocked it!”  While Head Judge Len Goodman observed, “This is a tough Dance for a Male Celebrity; and, you know, you gotta get those elbows Out, Flat back.  There’s a lot going on; you gotta try and work on the Footwork ... there were a few incidents where you struggled a little bit; but, for a Dance that is so difficult, I thought [that] you did well; it had the right amount of Speed”!

Kim & Sasha – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 01

DWTS Season 22, Week 01

REVIEW:  Kim & Sasha

Dancing the Cha-Cha to “Sax” (Love that song!) by Fleur East, Kim Fields and newly reinstated Pro, Sasha Farber, submitted their Week 01 Performance.

Kim & Sasha
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

It can never be an easy thing to be tasked with the job of officially opening up a new Season of Dancing With The Stars; and, I must say that Kim pulled it off wonderfully, confidently emoting all of the Grace and Performance Poise as one would expect from a life-long Actress!

Kim & Sasha
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

In addition, her actual Dancing was terrific (!), showcasing her Fantastic sense of Rhythm, her Light and Feminine Footwork, and her certain, Charismatic Stage Presence

Kim & Sasha
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

which allowed its viewers (myself included!) to just relax and enjoy the experience right along with Fields, rather than squirming uncomfortably on our seats!

Kim & Sasha
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Of course, a great deal of the Performance’s success must be credited to the ever-talented Sasha whose seamless Choreography kept the Routine on a delightfully Fun and “Sax-y” level!

Kim & Sasha
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

A great First-Showing overall and one that furthermore belied the strong possibility of an increasingly fabulous, Dancing future!

Doug & Karina – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 01

DWTS Season 22, Week 01
REVIEW:  Doug & Karina

Aiming for a Glitter Dome’s Touchdown, famed, former Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his Professional dancing partner, Karina Smirnoff, launched a Foxtrot to the Boston Beloved “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond.

Doug & Karina
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Well, unfortunately, I can’t exactly report that Doug’s first, ill-fated Ballroom Pass landed anywhere near the “End Zone”; but, I will say that its overall Yardage (Surprisingly!) wasn’t so very bad either!

Doug & Karina
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

A good attitude and a willingness to try can go an awfully long way within this Competition; and, if Flutie proved anything on Monday, it’s that he has plenty of both and more to spare!!

Plus, it was clear that the entire Ballroom and its Live Audience were rooting for him … AND for that Classic Song choice given to him for this Routine!

In the end, and despite some rather unsightly Hunched Shoulders, Sloppy Footwork, and only Fair to Middling Musicality, Flutie’s Foxtrot pulled out a rather pleasing effect, leaving Fans wondering whether or not Week 02 might just see better results from the Grid Iron Legend!

Doug & Karina
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

After all, and as Judge Carrie Ann Inaba pointed out to Flutie following his Dance, “People love Underdogs on this show”!

Geraldo & Edyta – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 01

DWTS Season 22, Week 01

REVIEW:  Geraldo & Edyta

Geraldo & Edyta
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Dancing … (Weeell, sorta!) a Cha-Cha … (Oh, is THAT what that was?!) to “Treasure” … (As in, “National”?  No argument!  But, as in “Dance”??  Hmmm …) by the one and only Bruno Mars, … (who would have flipped in his grave … were he in one.  … Although, and come to think of it, Geraldo just may have inadvertently put him in one ;) …), Geraldo Rivera and his Returning Pro partner, Edyta Sliwinska, submitted their Week 01 Routine.

Geraldo & Edyta
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Well, I’ll say this for Geraldo, he’s got guts; and, you gotta hand it to him for just coming out there on Monday and throwing himself into the Performance like that!

Geraldo & Edyta
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Unfortunately, however, it seems no amount of Stage Charisma (or Golden Sparkles!) could serve to cover up for the lack of Musicality, Footwork, and (Oh, heck!) General and/or ANY amount of Fluid Movement displayed within this “Dance”!

Geraldo & Edyta
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Still, one can’t help but enjoy Geraldo, with or without the dancing aspect; and, should he continue on in the Competition, it seems worth noting that, historically, there is always room for improvement on the show, so who knows?  Maybe Geraldo will come back and do better for Week 02!

Geraldo & Edyta
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

And anyway, the entire Routine wasn’t a COMPLETE waste as Head Judge, Len Goodman, so aptly phrased it in the end, “Well done!  Good fun!”

Marla & Tony – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 01

DWTS Season 22, Week 01

REVIEW:  Marla & Tony

Rather pointedly (and hilariously!) dancing the Quickstep to the all-too-appropriate “Sparkling Diamonds” by Nicole Kidman, Ex-Wife of Donald Trump, Marla Maples, and her Professional partner, former Mirror Ball Champion, Tony Dovolani, presented their Week 01 Routine.

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

An out-of-nowhere, supremely exquisite array of High-Class Glamour and Femininity, Marla (“Marilyn Monroe”) deftly tackled and carried out this next, delicious Number as a only a true Performer could have:  With all the Grace, Poise, and complimentary Fluid Lines one could ask for!

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

“I’m loving the Uptown Bombshell”! voiced Panel Judge, Bruno Tonioli, concerning the Dance.

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

A no less than SPLENDID exhibition of Lightness of Foot and (The all important!) Quickness of Step, Maples essentially made the Ballroom great again (Get it?), and proved to her Season 22 Competitors in one fell - all-too-easy - swoop, that there’ll likely be no messin’(!) as she, exemplifying the ever Natural and At Ease Contender, just may <Ahem!> Trump the lot of them within the coming Weeks!

Mischa & Artem – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 01

DWTS Season 22, Week 01

REVIEW:  Mischa & Artem

Mischa & Artem
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

I see Dancing People!  … And let me tell you, folks, the incurring result is no less freakishly frightening than that of The Sixth Sense’s Gruesomely Grim Ghosts and Ghouls of the 1990s!!

Dancing a watered-down Tango (Perhaps in an effort to better match Mischa’s seemingly always watering eyes) to “In the Night” (Waste of a perfectly good Tango Song, really!) by The Weeknd, Mischa Barton and her Professional partner, Artem Chigvintsev, submitted their Week 01 Performance.

Mischa & Artem
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Wow!  Truly, that was so awful, I’m not even really sure what to say!

“That wasn’t Dance, it was Walking!” chided Head Judge, Len Goodman, concerning the Death of the age-old Dance!
Oooo, yes!!  Thank you, Len, and well said!  Now I think I’ll take it from here …

WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS THAT??!!!

Because I can sure as heck tell you what it WASN’T … The Tango!

Mischa & Artem
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

An overall Epic Fail of a Routine, what should have (stereotypically) been an exquisite exhibition of Fierce Attack, Formidable Frame, Emoting Passion, and Strong, Defiant Lines was instead tragically traded in for a Weak, Watery-eyed Attitude, a Non-Existent Framing, just about all the Emoting Passion of a common Rock, and Lines with the general disposition of a wilted Flower Petal!

Mischa & Artem
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

Not to mention (and to make matters worse!), Mischa went on to display (in my opinion), following her low-scored Dance of all 5’s, a detestable amount of ill manners and self-disillusion when she chose to blame her horrific efforts - if they could even be called that - on her partner Artem’s strict Teaching Method and her own lack of Dance experience.

Oh, Pleeeease!!  Good grief, Mischa, how “strict” could Artem be, because it certainly seems clear that YOU felt less than driven when it came down to executing this Routine!

And you can quit your whining about “Dance experience” as well, as you yourself have elected to join up with what is an (Stay with me, now …) AMATURE, Celebrity Competition!

Honestly, Barton, do try and keep up.
