DWTS
Season 20, Week 1 REVIEW
Here
are my opinions on how the cast of DWTS 10th anniversary
season fared on their first week of competition!
HELLO! Let's talk about the surprise high scorers of the night ... Ladies and Gentlemen, with an impressive 32 out of 40 it's ---> Rumer & Val!!
Rumer & Val |
Rumer Willis & Valentin Chmerkovskiy |
Friggin' A, Rumer! I'm just gonna' say it! ... Insane talent just abounds in the Willis Family!
I mean, I always knew that I liked Rumer, given the fact that she's the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore; but, ... wow, Wow, WOW!!
She and Val just complement each other like crazy! And Rumer was so very graceful! It was amazing. Who knew?!
AND
It was so sweet to see all of her family there cheering her on! Bruce and Demi looked very proud of their daughter; and, Scout and Tallulah Willis were equally endearing with their overt enthusiasm in support of their big sister!
I gotta' say, it looks as though Rumer and Val have a real shot at that Golden Mirror Ball!
Willow and Mark: Willow Shields and professional
partner, Mark Ballas were first out
of the gate dancing the Cha-cha.
I
think it must take no small amount of guts to come out and officially kick off
the competition…especially when you’re only 14; but having noted that, I must
say that Willow’s Cha-cha lacked a serious amount of umph!
She
seemed so slow and drag-y! And, also,
(while I know I’m not the first to say it) isn’t she just too young? C’mon, people!
Over-all,
I wouldn’t say her performance was terrible,
but I would say she should seriously consider calling up Katniss Everdeen and
asking her to come volunteer as tribute!
Robert and Kym: In their package, he offered her a Ferrari if
they win … I can’t decide if that’s cool … or …
just
icky … especially with the “really
fast” drive, ride, … and … all that <ugh> giggling!
To
put it as kindly as possible (not unlike the judges did with their all-too
generous scoring of his performance), Robert
Herjavec and partner Kym Johnson’s (great choreography!) Cha-cha
was “pretty good” … full of smiles (And I mean “full” … weird, right?) … but
not quite “impressive”!
I did appreciate, though, the way he obviously worked hard to learn the actual steps, had fun, and threw himself into it.
Who
knows?
Maybe
next week he’ll get even better (perhaps a matching yacht to go with the
Ferrari?).
Riker and Allison: Well, I’ll say this for Riker Lynch, concerning his and Pro Allison Holker’s Jive, he was
surprisingly with it, flexible and jaunty…nothing to write home about and
certainly not a blow-you-away kind of performance but still worthy of an, Oh!
You ARE distantly related to Derek and Julianne Hough!
BTW, after seeing his response to Erin Andrew's question regarding his relations, Derek and Julianne, I wonder if someone can please translate this post into Moranic, because otherwise I don’t think
poor Riker will be able to understand it!
Charlotte and
Keo: Charlotte
McKinney and Keo Motsepe danced the Jive…Well, Keo did
anyhow…Wow…somebody open a window!
But, hey! It wasn't all bad ... as Len put it, "There were a couple of things that stood out ... " !!
Patti and Artem: Patti
Labelle and Artem Chigvintsev
were instantly endearing dancing their Foxtrot.
Artem was very much the gentleman, as he lead Patti skillfully through the dance, and was completely respectful, without a hint of condescension or patronizing, of Patti’s life-time achievements.
And
what Patti might of lacked in athleticism, she more than made up for with grace
and poise.
A
real treat.
Chris and Witney: Chris
Soules and Witney Carson’s Jive
was a sincere corn-fed delight!
“Prince
Farming” was impressively light-of-foot and charismatic while Witney remained
her all-too-cute self!
Chris
was especially impressive, by the way, when you consider that
he is actually dancing with a hamstring injury - an injury incurred during an alumni football game at his old High School.
Michael and Peta: Peta
Murgatroyd’s interpretation of the well-known favorite, "Uptown
Funk!", was in a word, Superb!!
Her
choreography was incredible and her dancing even more so!
Seriously,
she was all over that dance floor just like, Bam, Pow, Kaboom!
Nastia and Derek: Nastia
Liukin and Derek Hough’s Foxtrot was one for the record books…a “Spectacular”
New York-themed performance that resulted in 60 seconds of Broadway-like
perfection!
Redfoo and Emma: Redfoo
and Emma Slater’s “Juicy Wiggle”
was extremely entertaining but, alas, Redfoo’s Cha-cha…not so good!
However,
he did do way better than I thought
he would and, even though I know that the judges don’t usually go for Hip-hop,
I didn’t think it was fair to score him down there with Charlotte … nobody deserved that!
Noah and Sharna: Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess’s Cha-cha showed Noah to be, once again, courageous
with “#NoExcuses” given (it was on his rehearsal t-shirt).
I
thought Sharna’s choreography was spot on and absolutely lovely. Their dance was surprisingly good…very
enjoyable indeed!
I say just give Noah the mirror ball right now and let the
entire cast go on a paid vacation; I mean, he gave his arm and his leg fighting
for our country in freakin’ Iraq (Thank you, Sergeant Galloway for your
service.).
Suzanne and Tony: Suzanne
Somers and Tony Davolani’s
Cha-cha left a great deal to be desired but somehow remained fun, relaxed and
enjoyable!
So
there you have it ! Week 1 of DWTS season 20!
