DWTS Season 22, Week 03
REVIEW: Von & Witney
Dancing a casual Contemporary to “In the Air
Tonight” by Phil Collins
(Love that Song!), Super Bowl MVP,
Von Miller, and his
Professional partner, Witney Carson,
presented their Most Memorable Year Night Routine.

Well, first thing’s first … how friggin’ cool is it that Von listens to a little Phil before Games?! (Nice one, Miller!)
Now, as to Von’s dancing-g-g-g-g-g … Well, suffice it to say, that is another matter entirely!
<Re-examining the above, written line>
Ugh! < Banging head on the desk in front of me> Yes, it’s true; and it more than frustrates me to admit it, TeamBlondeMiller being one of my absolute favorites so far in this Competition!

delightfully
and beautifully carried this Dance past what might have easily been deemed as
merely an “Okay” Performance to a lovely, emoting Piece, made up of Quiet
Tension and gratifying swells of Charisma and Passion!

Still, and despite these wonderful characteristics (which one might argue should have produced a MUCH better result in Judges’ Score and Critique), this potentially “EXCELLENT” Routine was brought tragically short of its initial, assumed designation by none other than Von, himself, whose apathetic and somewhat (Dare I say it?) lazy execution of this otherwise exemplary piece was enough to render all the above praise quite useless when it came to the awarding of the Judges Points!
Now, now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not as though Miller just came out and (metaphorically speaking) fell flat on his face or anything. … On the contrary, Von’s dancing of this Routine was, indeed, more “Graceful” than not -

“… There’s something
charming about a Big Guy trying to be ‘Graceful’!” said Head Judge, Len Goodman - but it cannot be
denied that with every Line and Movement stopping just short of “Full Extension”, Von’s Performance, in the end, left it’s
Viewers (well, ME, anyway) with a generic, wanting feeling of being “Not quite satisfied”.
“… It was very nice,” as Panel Judge, Carrie Ann Inaba, so aptly (and
therefore, uncharacteristically) summed up the entire affair, “it was
‘Pleasant’; but I want more!”
Perhaps Miller’s biggest problem is that he does not seem to be taking these Dances (so far, least) all that seriously! … It’s more like, in my opinion, he acts as if he feels as though he were on a fun and relaxed “Dancing Vacay”, rather than partaking in a quite serious, Ballroom Competition!
And in the end, I would agree with Carrie Ann (for once!) and add that there’s more to you than this, Dance-wise, Von (At least, I think there is!), so go ahead and come back next Week and put your “All” into the Performance!

… Maybe think of the next Dance like one giant, looming Quarterback, and just get out there and Tackle that mother’!
