DWTS Elimination: Marla & Tony – Season 22, Week 04

Marla Maples and Tony Dovolani
ELIMINATED

on Dancing With The Stars

Well, it seems that dreams won’t be coming true for Donald Trump Ex, Marla Maples, and her Professional partner, Tony Dovolani, as the Dancing Duo were given the “Royal Wave” at the conclusion of last Monday’s fabulous Disney Night, following the Couple’s enchanting “Under the Sea” Waltz to “Part of Your World” from the animated classic, The Little Mermaid.

Marla & Tony's elimination on DWTS,
Season 22, Week 04, Disney Night.

Yesiree, folks, and it’s official, we’ve now unfortunately arrived at that time in the DWTS Competition when each and every Elimination will hurt (a moment, it should be mentioned, which has arrived much sooner than most of the show’s past Seasons), although it was immensely gratifying to see that even poor Marla was able to seize a piece of her own happy ending, despite being Eliminated, as she departed graciously from Disney Night’s Ballroom having performed one of her best Dances yet!

Referring to Marla and her Partnership with him as having been "incredible", DWTS Pro, Dovolani, would seem to echo these feelings while Maples shared upon the Couples exit, “We have had so much fun …”!

Marla & Tony – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 04

DWTS Season 22, Week 04

REVIEW:  Marla & Tony

The first Couple to dance for DWTS’ Week 04 festivities, Donald Trump Ex, Marla Maples, and her Professional Partner, Tony Dovolani, performed a Waltz to “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid.

Look at this Waltz, wasn’t it neat?  Wouldn’t you think that its Score would be sweet? … Given the fact that it was a Waltz – A Waltz that had EVERYTHING???

Disney Night

… A no less than enchanting dive “Under the Sea”, this beautifully executed Routine by Marla served as an absolutely PERFECT inclusion in DWTS’ always gratifying Disney Night, while also wonderfully showcasing Marla’s supreme and natural ability to be ever Graceful and Feminine within the Art of Dance!
I mean to say, WHAT a lovely showing!!

Disney Night

Fluid Lines, an Elegant Frame, and some very nice Lifts were brought gently to life on Monday night’s Dance Floor, thanks in part, of course, to Maples, and thanks still, in even greater part, to her Pro partner, Tony, whose emoting Choreographing of this staunchly Content-filled Waltz was key in the transformation of this already-endeared animated classic
into a positively <Ahem> SWIMMING Ballroom Performance (Oh, yes, I so went there!) !!

Nonetheless, and as much as it pains me to say it, the Choreography (Or perhaps it was merely Marla’s Dancing of it!), while certainly MORE than pleasing overall, did include what looked and felt like several disruptive “Pauses” within the otherwise Flowing Routine which, in turn, affected a rather “Bumpy” appearance at times.

Not to mention, Marla’s Footwork, while almost reaching the level of “Top-Notch”, still displayed a little bit of “Heaviness” and “Flatness” throughout.  … Perhaps Heels would have helped, Tony?

That said, it simply cannot be refuted that, in the end, and despite these visual afflictions, this dance had successfully remained a captivating-ly dainty and, and furthermore, delightful affair!

All “7”s, Judges?! … REALLY?!!  Not one of you could be bothered to throw up a well-earned “8” in there?!!!

And I must say, I think that I’m more disappointed in Head Judge Len Goodman than anyone whose casual dismissal of this “Strictly Waltz” Routine, as shown through his scoring of it, went starkly against his own previously made, approving observations that the Dance had included “Charm”, “Elegance”, and “Romance”!

Good night, Len!  While I more or less EXPECT a certain level of Idiocy and Vain Conceit to arise from the other Panel Judges, Carrie Ann and Bruno, and ESPECIALLY out of Guest Judge Zendaya (Who - “I’m not even gonna lie” - SUCKED all night long!), I usually expect much more from you, PARTICULARLY when it seems as though poor Tony had gone through such pains to make this Number purely “Waltz” for you, while still maintaining a good keeping with the evening’s Theme!

… Honestly, Can you guys, PLEASE, just pull it together?!

Marla & Tony – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 03

DWTS Season 22, Week 03

REVIEW: Marla & Tony

Presenting a Jive for their Week 03 Routine, Donald Trump Ex, Marla Maples, and her Professional dancing partner, Tony Dovolani, danced to “Happy” (Love that song!) by Pharrell Williams.

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 03

Well, I can’t say that I was too “Happy” about this next Performance (Read along if you feel like this Routine had a roof … of ability!).  I will start off by noting that Marla actually did quite well for performing the Jive - A difficult Dance, to say the least, no matter when it is executed, MUCH LESS when executed within the early Weeks of Competition! – and, even more so, far better than I was initially prepared to give her credit for!

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 03

(I mean, c’mon, folks, and give it on up!  That was an AMAZING Lift and subsequent Flip!!)

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 03

That said, I found this Routine to be tired and, what’s more,  “Haggard” overall, with Marla’s (all-important) Kicks and Flicks being so much less than “Sharp”, and more still, her generic Footwork effecting a non-pleasing Heavy-footed Feel.

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 03

“… I love that you did not take the ‘Shortcut’, “ noted Panel judge, Carrie Ann Inaba, of the Performance, “you did a lot of Content, you push yourself physically … it was fantastic!”

“You’re ‘Happy’, I’m ‘Happy!” Head Judge, Len Goodman, stated simply concerning the Dance; and, while it seems sure that the above quotes merely arose as the direct result of a refreshing amount of pure “Content” within this Jive, it would be only fair to observe that, while Marla’s execution of it was a far cry from perfect, Choreography is half of this Ballroom’s battles; and, I must say that Tony, ever the consummate Pro, did a smashing job of it!

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 03

In the end, I found the Judges’ scoring of this dance of all “7”s to be a just and fair Score for this particular Routine, and had also noted Marla’s steady (albeit slow) dancing progression from Week to Week to be a - so far, at least - gratifying experience.

Marla & Tony – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 02

DWTS Season 22, Week 02

REVIEW:  Marla & Tony

Dancing an Automated Argentine Tango to “Don’t” by Ed Sheeran, Trump-Ex, Marla Maples, and her Professional partner, Tony Dovolani, presented their Latin Night Routine.

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 02

A terrific showing, generally speaking, Marla’s Lines and Footwork in this Dance were undeniably excellent, and her Frame, better than most!

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 02

Her Execution, however, was another matter entirely, hitting each and every Pose and Foot Placement with an almost tragic lack of attack and sharpness!

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 02

Her general Attitude, as well, and Facial Expression could easily be called more “Autopilot” than “Aggressive”, with her whole demeanor seeming more or less absent-minded as she lazily went through the Motions of the Dance.

Now, don’t get me wrong ... upon the whole I really did love and enjoy the Routine, as well as Marla’s dancing of it overall; but, it can hardly be refuted that, in the end, that same dancing lacked ANY kind of Passion.

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 02

“When you approach an Argentine Tango,” began Judge Bruno Tonioli, upon reviewing the Performance, “… you gotta kick @$$ … You’ve got it, flaunt it!”; while Judge Carrie Ann Inaba countered, that Marla’s Routine was merely a “Different take” on the age-old Latin Dance, and furthermore praised this same “take” for being “Sophisticated” and “Elegant” … three comments which I found to be bordering on the ridiculous! …

The Argentine Tango is, traditionally, a dark-flavored, passionate style of dancing, and should, furthermore, be Executed as such, within reason.

What the Argentine Tango is certainly NOT is an “Elegant” or “Sophisticated” style of dancing … Unless, when using the word “Sophisticated” you are implying the word “Escort”.

There’s no “Different take” on the Argentine Tango!  You may not Grin stupidly as though you were dancing the Jive, nor behave as though bereaved when dancing the Contemporary!  … THIS IS NOT FREESTYLE!!

This is a Ballroom Dance (and Competition) and, as such, certain Steps and Standards must be adhered to! … Otherwise, WHAT would be the point?!

And in that vein, you know
as well as anyone, Carrie Ann, (and, in fact, pride yourself on knowing) that the Emotions, Facial Expressions, and Character Portrayal are JUST AS IMPORTANT, and more so, necessary, within a Dance (including the Argentine Tango) as Proper Execution and Technique!

… And if the above is, indeed, NOT so very important, Carrie Ann, nor necessary as you have so tediously led us to believe over the many, past, trying years of Dreadful Rants and Pointed Point-docking, why then was Nyle DiMarco’s Richly Vibrant and Romantic Rumba so GROSSLY under-scored?!

After all, couldn’t his Performance just have been labeled as being a “Different take” on the Rumba?

In conclusion, the next time you are going to bend the rules of Ballroom, Carrie Ann, based on the mere fact that a certain Routine appealed to you “just ‘cause”, that’s fine!  Let’s just chalk it up as being one of the perks of being Judge.  … But is it asking too much then that you extend that same courtesy to ALL of the Competitors?!!

Marla & Tony – Review of DWTS Season 22, Week 01

DWTS Season 22, Week 01

REVIEW:  Marla & Tony

Rather pointedly (and hilariously!) dancing the Quickstep to the all-too-appropriate “Sparkling Diamonds” by Nicole Kidman, Ex-Wife of Donald Trump, Marla Maples, and her Professional partner, former Mirror Ball Champion, Tony Dovolani, presented their Week 01 Routine.

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

An out-of-nowhere, supremely exquisite array of High-Class Glamour and Femininity, Marla (“Marilyn Monroe”) deftly tackled and carried out this next, delicious Number as a only a true Performer could have:  With all the Grace, Poise, and complimentary Fluid Lines one could ask for!

“I’m loving the Uptown Bombshell”! voiced Panel Judge, Bruno Tonioli, concerning the Dance.

Marla & Tony
DWTS Season 22, Week 01

A no less than SPLENDID exhibition of Lightness of Foot and (The all important!) Quickness of Step, Maples essentially made the Ballroom great again (Get it?), and proved to her Season 22 Competitors in one fell - all-too-easy - swoop, that there’ll likely be no messin’(!) as she, exemplifying the ever Natural and At Ease Contender, just may <Ahem!> Trump the lot of them within the coming Weeks!

Marla & Tony

(Oh, let’s just face it, folks! …)

Known primarily for being the ex-Wife of Multi-Billionaire … or is it, GAZILLIONARE?  I get it confused! … and this year’s Presidential Candidate, Donald Trump  - “I’m really rich”, to quote the man himself, concerning his Net worth, according to Wikipedia

Donald Trump and Marla Maples

Maples is also quite well-known (believe it or not!) for being a Television Personality, as well as for her Acting credits, which include roles in past Films such as, For Richer or Poorer (1997) and The Christmas List (1997).

“This is my mother’s favorite, favorite show” the 52-year-old ex-Wife of Trump explained, according to dailymail.com, regarding her reasons behind joining the Ballroom’s newest, Spring Cast, “and I just lost her two years ago …”

“I just think the world of her,” added Marla’s Season 22 Professional partner and former Mirror Ball Champion, Tony Dovolani, “… We’ve known each other for a long time.  We actually met in an airport, of all places.”

“… she’s been working really hard.”, the veteran Pro, 42, went on gush, “She’s been giving me everything I’ve asked for so far, so I’m hoping it takes us to the end.”
