Alek & Lindsay - Review of DWTS Season 21, Week 03

DWTS Season 21, Week 03

REVIEW:  Alek & Lindsay

Dancing a “bad”-out Tango to “Bad Things” by Jace Everett, from True Blood, Alek Skarlatos and his partner, Lindsay Arnold, tore up the Ballroom dance floor for DWTS’ TV Night!

Alek & Lindsay's Tango
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

FINALLY!  A TV theme that can be danced to … I don’t know the show; but, at least its theme has a beat!!  Seriously, what Producer even came up with this ridiculous, waste of a Theme Night ... or at the very least, what deluded turkey selected tonight’s music line-up? There are at LEAST a dozen TV themes - new and old alike - that would have been FAR-better suited for Monday night’s show!

But I digress! … Alek & Lindsay absolutely killed it!!

DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

There are few other words for Lindsay’s brilliant choreography of this dance other than exquisite, superb, and thrilling; and, as for Alek’s dancing, it was - simply put - nothing less than a delectable Tango-ing Treat!!

DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

His Frame was excellent, he led the dance beautifully, and the amount of violent passion which he brought to this intense performance quite literally shocked me!

And for once, the judges seemed to agree! …

“ … true talent runs in your blood! …” quipped judge Bruno Tonioli; and judge, Julianne Hough, also stated, “ … I thought that was perfection!  In my opinion, I think you have one of the best Pros … what’s she’s done with you.  I think you have the best Technique of anybody in this competition!”.

Even guest judge, Alfonso Ribeiro’s, comment didn’t <Ahem!> suck:  “You are a Hero,” he smiled (granted, a little too condescendingly for my taste but, regardless … ), “you danced like a Hero tonight!”.

Despite, however, the Judging Panel’s overtures of praise, this terrific routine received only one “9” (from Julianne), and three 8’s … What up, guys?!  How can you give such a score when you awarded Alexa & Mark’s less-than-impressive Jazz Number with ALL 9’s??!!  Honestly, get it together, people!

Andy & Allison Review of DWTS Season 21, Week 03

DWTS Season 21, Week 03

REVIEW: Andy & Allison

For their TV Night routine, Andy Grammer and his Professional dancing partner, Allison Holker, danced a Quickstep to “Bandstand Boogie”, by Larry Elgart, from American Bandstand!

DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

I really enjoyed this next routine!

Andy & Allison's Quickstep
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

Allison’s stereotypical full-on attack of this Quickstep's choreography was terrifically-fun; and, the way that Andy just threw himself into this always-difficult Ballroom dance was very much admirable!

DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

Alas!  However sincere his efforts may have been - and as much as it pains me to say it - poor Andy fell tragically short of a decent Quickstep!

His Frame was awful, his Musicality once again lacking (still chasing that seemingly-elusive beat of the song!), and his overall Movement notably stiff (It looked as though he was dancing through mud!).

DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -

Poor Andy is so very nice and his enthusiasm so extreme that I currently find myself at this point of the competition practically willing him to do better but …

Hey! There's always next Week; and, whether or not Andy’s dancing is much-improved, it's sure to be fun, as always!

Hayes and Emma Review of DWTS Season 21, Week 03

DWTS Season 21, Week 03
REVIEW: Hayes & Emma

Closing down TV Night was YouTube sensation Hayes Grier and his Professional dancing partner Emma Slater, serving up a delightful Jive on the half-shell to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Theme” by Chuck Lorre and Dennis C. Brown, from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Hayes & Emma's Jive
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

Cowabunga!  This dance was just pure fun!!

Hayes & Emma's Jive
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -

The choreography was fast, zany, and Appropriately Adorbs - if not bordering on adorkable - which was, again, appropriate, so well done, Emma!

Hayes & Emma's Jive
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

As for Hayes’ Jiving, his Flips and Kicks were FAR more impressive than his Flicks and Kicks (Point those toes!); and, his face did look as though he had a screw loose in his Jaw line or something (“ … You looked out of breath, …” voiced judge Carrie Ann Inaba!); but, the guy was asked to do a Jive in a friggin’, full-blown turtle costume ... plus, his musicality was very good; AND, he was so incredibly in sync with Emma (despite Julianne Hough’s critiques to the contrary!), so overall I must say that I thought he did extremely well for himself!

Gary & Anna Review of DWTS Season 21, Week 03

DWTS Season 21, Week 03

REVIEW:  Gary & Anna

Dancing a Tango to “The Addams Family Theme”, by Vic Mizzy, from The Addams Family, the ever-delightful and amusing Gary Busey and his Professional partner, Anna Trebunskaya, submitted their TV Night performance!

Gary & Anna's Tango
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -

They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re all together ooky, the “Addams Family”!

DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

Okay, so definitely NOT the best Tango the show has ever seen; but nevertheless, this routine stood out Monday night as being a whole lotta fun!

Gary & Anna's Tango
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

Anna did such a great job choreographing this dance; and, her portrayal of Morticia Addams was eerily dead-on!

Gary & Anna's Tango
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

As for Gary, his stomping-about take on the Tango was interesting, to be sure; and, I thought that his dancing character - as a whole - screamed more Lurch-meets-Herman-Munster than the ever-suave Gomez Addams; but overall, a most enjoyable watch!

Kim Zolciack Withdraws From The Competition – DWTS S21, Wk03

Zolciak Drops Out

Due To Health Issues –

DWTS Season 21,Week 03

Kim & Tony

Season 21 contestant, Kim Zolciak, officially Withdrew from the competition Monday night after apparently suffering from a small Stroke during the previous week.

The Atlanta Housewife seemingly recovered rather quickly from this competitive set-back, with reports circulating throughout the week of Kim’s Professional partner, Tony Dovolani, rehearsing with Zolciak in her hospital room for the Couple’s upcoming I Dream of Genie-themed Samba.

Noting that her “health” came first, Zolciak wound up being a no-show for DWTS’ TV Night, despite gossip to the contrary, leaving Tony to perform their Samba with help from obliging Troupe member, Jenna Johnson.

Upon dancing the lively (and incidentally, very well-choreographed) routine, Dancing With The Stars Host, Tom Bergeron, joined the very good humored Tony on the dance floor to solemnly announce The Pro and Reality star’s departure from the show.

Kim Zolciak was contacted live during the announcement where she was asked to give an update of her current predicament.

"Kim Zolciak was contacted live ... "

Zolciak informed the Audience and fans at large that, while she indeed felt ready to dance, her Doctor had advised her against any flying at this time, hence Zolciak’s absence from the live show.

After quoting a section of DWTS’ rules, set for the show in 2006 when the show debuted, that confirmed Zolciak’s requirement to Withdraw from the program, and one or two Lawyer quips, the affair was ended.

As a result, the night’s pre-scheduled Elimination was subsequently canceled, much to the relief of the remaining competitors.

Tamar & Val - Review of DWTS Season 21, Week 03

DWTS Season 21, Week 03

REVIEW:  Tamar & Val

Dancing the Tango to “Beautiful Mind”, by RJD2, from Mad Men, Tamar Braxton and her Professional partner, reigning Golden Mirror Ball Champ, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, submitted their routine for Season 21’s TV Night.

Tamar & Val's Tango
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

Well, first off, I just want to note that Val’s choreography and creative conceptions remain as genius as ever … VERY well done! Next, I just want to ask:

WHAT is Tamar’s deal?!

Seriously, the whole “I’m just gonna throw a hissy-fit and fight Val (Oh, excuse me “Valentin”, because "it’s easier to say"!) on every little, teeny-tiny thing, hence gaining for myself some more much-sought-after attention!” shtick IS GETTING OLD!!

Come on now!  With Tamar’s natural dancing ability and Val’s genius they could be an incredible team!  Tamar could be a “Dancing Queen” and not a “Queen B” (With a capital “B”), like she seems so determined to be!

And by the way, as cute as I’m sure she thinks her whole Bickering Shtick is, the TV show, Mad Men, is based IN THE 60’s!! … where there were no “empowered’ or “independent” women Bosses with male Secretaries …

She could just get over it and do the dance, or not, I don’t really care; but, she needs to quit trying to tell Val what’s what if she has ANY hope of succeeding in this competition!

She is dancing with the current, reigning Golden Mirror Ball Champion; and, her little “Queen B” act is going to royally mess things up for her! … Just sayin’ …

DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Week

Oh!  And while her Tango-ing steps were very well executed, her Dancing Lines are still very lazy instead of sharp, and that ever-constant, absent-minded expression remained plastered across her face throughout the performance.

Paula & Louis - Review of DWTS Season 21, Week 03

DWTS Season 21, Week 03

REVIEW:  Paula & Louis

“Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of an adorable dance, when Paula & Louis performed for us all a minute-long Samba … a minute-long Samba!”

Paula & Louis' Samba
DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -
TV Night

(If you’re unfamiliar with the theme from Gilligan’s Island, there is just no helping you!)

Dancing the Samba to “The ballad of Gilligan’s Isle”, by The Eligibles, from Gilligan’s Island, Dixieland’s Celebrity Chef, Paula Deen, and her Professional partner, Louis Van Amstel, performed their TV Night routine.

DWTS Season 21, Week 03 -

And I must say, that I found this routine to be incredibly cute!

What Paula may have lacked in technical steps (which granted, was a whole lot, yet there was some improvement!), the performance more than made up for with great fun and entertainment!

(And speaking of, by the way, the Troupe members, Jenna Johnson, Sasha Farber, Haley Erbert, and most of all Alan Bersten - who proved to be an absolute hoot playing the part of the Skipper! - were killing it, great job guys!)
